I reckon a million would country a bones income for life - not accounting for whatever interest.

To be comfy, I call up I demand 15 1000 a year. I'yard 38, so assuming I alive to 85, I need almost £700,000.
level 2
Investing £500k and receiving a pocket-sized iii% return would give you the required £15k a yr.
level ii
I think this would be achievable if you currently own your house outright and don't intend to travel anywhere in your life
Unless it's 15k on top of what you already earn.

Probably close to a billion. I am a very fancy human.

r/ukpersonalfinance has some skillful threads almost this - including some anonymous threads about coming into very large sums of money.
The answer is ofttimes more than you would think if you assume a conservative render on investment and inflation, and information technology depends how old you lot are and if y'all have a house.

£5000000. 1-2m to spend to get house with big garden in rural expanse. Put 2m in depository financial institution or investment fund, which will pay me off 5000 every month( pocket money) and 1m will be for investments to keep my brain busy, Most likely bay old houses and fix.
level 1
To alive like nosotros do now, perhaps 1m, to do what we would want if we didn't work, a lot more than than that.
level two
Why did you lot put "won" did you steal it? Did you lot sort your family unit out? How accept you dealt with the beggars? Can I have 100k?
level 2
3 1000000 investment returns would give yous an equivalent bacon of roughly £115,00 per twelvemonth.
You lot must accept a pretty nice lifestyle right now!

£150,000,000 in used notes.

I'grand l and already have enough to retire at 67 and my mortgage is paid off. So I reckon half a mill would be enough to get me there at about 20 m a year after tax.

enjoyable nonsense fund
I like that. That's what I'm going to call my savings account from now on.

I'd quit and do some volunteer work, have up my special Constable role again and maybe go into hospices and paint nails or something.

I'm really weird and love working
You should go for a sum where you could then play real life FM.

£1.5mil. Stick the 1 in a savings business relationship that dripfeeds interest into my account, and spend the 500k on a new, admitting modest life.
level 2
£500k you could probably splash out on rechargeable vibes tbh

At least 2.5/three million, depends where you want to live, how onetime you are, kids education etc. I'd def want a practiced fiscal advisor to make certain the money works for me.

What?!
Allow's presume the aim is to live off the interest / investment returns on the £3 manufacturing plant effigy:
-
A 5% render gives you £150,000 a year or £12,500 per month
-
A 3% return gives you £90,000 a yr or £7500 per month
Now allow's take the bottom figure and presume at that place's tax to pay of 20% ( information technology's more complex in reality), £7500 becomes £6000 which is the equivalent of a £115,000 salary.
Even in central London that'd be a very high bacon.

A hundred grand per year for the rest of my life. Probably about three million.

For me and the missus to live the same as we are would require the equivalent of £60k pa every year. So works out about £iii mill. Still we would like a nice house and a couple of nice cars so probably double that to really never have to work or think about how to pay for things once again
level 1
I reckon a million and above.
level 1
Realistically, a million. That would let me alive on 30k a year for the next 33 years or so, which is more than than i'1000 currently living on. If i lived on my current wage it would manifestly last a bit longer.

To fully quit work I retrieve around £2m
Since A) I take admittedly no idea how to invest coin, so I'd just stick it all in a mattress and likely accrue more debt over interest because I'm unlucky like that, and B) I don't hate my work, I just wish I could call my own shots.
Let me win a few hundred yard and I'll simply set upward my ain lil business and exist sorted.
